Project Management Articles from the Project Management Advisor™ |
The
One Nugget Report from The Project Management Advisor™Throughout my career I've conducted many interviews for a wide variety of jobs. Most of my experiences as an interviewer were relatively uneventful with some ending in a job offer and others ending with an "I don't think there is a good fit" response. Some of my more memorable interviews, though, were with an interviewee thinking he or she was entitled for the job and immediately began informing me of salary demands before I knew anything about the interviewee. I can safely say that exactly 100% of those interviewees were not invited back for a second interview.
In this one-nugget report I talk about the importance of convincing the interviewer that you are the best person for the job before you even utter a word about compensation. Coming into an interview playing hard to get and assuming a position of "if you want me you're going to have to pay me" will invariably get you escorted to the door in a hurry.
