Why are manhole covers round?
Certainly a very interesting question and one which might at first glance fall into the this-is-nice-to-know-but-will-never-come-in-handy category of useless information. So why in the world would an interviewer ask something like this in an interview?
In this one-nugget report I talk about the importance of critical questions, why they are used, and how they influence hiring decisions. I have made significant hire/no-hire decisions based upon how an interviewee embraced, glazed over, or scoffed at a critical thinking skills question.
