Throughout my career I've met some incredibly smart people. The intellectual horsepower of some of these folks was nothing short of astounding. I like to think I can hold my own in the smarts department, but in comparison to some of these brainiacs I might just as well had been wearing a dunce cap.
Where I've seen a number of really really smart people blow it on the credibility front is when they actually had to deliver against an objective where success was dependent on leading others. As leaders, it's more than just having a great idea; if you can't follow through you're not going to inspire others to follow you.
