The
One Nugget Report from The Project Management Advisor™
Issue 2009-17 - Building a Purpose-Driven Resume
I recently had the pleasure of interacting with a group of young
professionals on how to strategically think about their resume.
Too often
in career planning the resume building process is treated as a
"how-good-can-I-make-my-word-document-look" and is driven more by
what gets bolded and italicized versus what experience and
qualifications will wow a prospective employer. This is
similar to getting in your car in Los Angeles heading "East" hoping
you end up in New York. Just because you're going in the
right general direction doesn't mean you'll land at the right
destination. Way too much left up to chance.
The interaction that I had with this group was terrific and we had a
lot of "a-ha's" during our time together. I thought that I
would give the presentation I used a bit of double duty and make it
available to you as well with my compliments. At the end of
the presentation there is an exercise which is geared to help you
think more strategically about your resume and put an action plan
together to plug the holes in your resume.
You can download the Powerpoint presentation
